The Joys of Cruising

If you live in Fort Collins, chances are you've seen me huffing my way up Elizabeth Street on my mint-chocolate colored cruiser. The same cruiser owned by about a third of the other girls at CSU. Its cushy seat serves well, and for $70 at Walmart, its a steal. Despite the fact that it has one gear, squeaks with every push of a pedal, and that my boyfriend calls me the Wicked Witch of the West when I ride it, I love my cruiser.

There are times when I don't love cruising. Like the time when I got stuck in a snow flurry, with nothing but sunglasses and a tiny hood to fend off the cold. Or all the times when Fort Collins decides that it wants to compete with Chicago for windiest city.

Then there are the times when the sun warms my handlebars, and I take the time to actually notice the how close the mountains are to my house. Even though days can be long and the ride home is uphill, it is worth it to see those beautiful mountains that I missed so much when I was in Australia. The ride there isn't so bad either. I love the exercise, the energy boost, and most importantly the ability to leave 15 minutes later than I would if I was riding the bus. (Apparently the patience I learned while studying abroad did not completely stay with me... It's a work in progress.) Regardless, buying that poorly made bike with my $100 Rams Pointe gift card sophomore year was one of the best decisions I made in college. Aside from deciding to leave Rams Pointe. Even though I may look like a fool as I max out my one-speed bike on the ride to school, l plan on continuing to cruise until I graduate. After that, who knows? Maybe I'll even buy an actual road bike. The future is bright.

Cruiser Love (Actually, this isn't even mine lol)
